Mastering Guitar Practice: Beyond Slow and Steady
In my blog about the best way to practice guitar, I want to emphasize something: while everyone says to practice slowly (and they're right!), there are other crucial factors to consider for effective practice.
First, yes, practice slow. This allows you to focus on accuracy and technique. But beyond that, try practicing section by section. Break down the song or piece into manageable parts. This might be one or two lines at a time.
Once you've isolated a section, repeat it. A lot. Keep track of how many times you've played it. For me, the magic number is 30 times. This ensures thorough practice and helps commit it to muscle memory.
To keep track, you'll need a paper sheet and pencil. Draw a line on the paper each time you play the section. This visual aid helps you see your progress and stay motivated.
